This is still alpha (and still free) but already great. A really useful plugin (or, correctly speaking a hack or patch) for the Finder (not a replacement). Adds tabs, adds side-by-side, adds a hidden stand-by finder called vizor which is invoked by a keyboard shortcut and disappears after use.
